Description

Sausage Mummies are a fun and spooky Halloween snack perfect for kids. These adorable mummies are made by wrapping sausages in golden puff pastry “bandages” and baking them until flaky. They are easy to make, customizable, and a hit at any Halloween party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet (about 250 g) ready-rolled puff pastry
  • 10 small sausages (or mini hot dogs)
  • 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)
  • Edible candy eyes or small dots of mayonnaise/mustard for decoration
  • Optional: A sprinkle of sesame seeds or poppy seeds before baking
  • Optional: A pinch of garlic powder or herbs for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry sheet and cut it into thin strips about ½ inch (1 cm) wide using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  3. Take each sausage and wrap it with the pastry strips, leaving small gaps to mimic mummy bandages. Leave a little space near one end for the “face”.
  4. Place the wrapped sausages on the lined baking tray. Brush each one lightly with beaten egg for a golden, glossy finish.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
  6. Allow the mummies to cool for a few minutes, then add eyes using edible candy eyeballs or pipe tiny dots of mayonnaise, cream cheese, or mustard.
  7. Serve warm or at room temperature with your favorite dips.

Notes

  • Keep pastry cold before baking for best puff.
  • Do not wrap too tightly; the pastry expands while baking.
  • Leave small gaps between the “bandages” for an authentic look.
  • Use an egg wash for shine and color.
  • Add eyes after baking to prevent melting or burning.
  • Serve with classic ketchup, honey mustard, garlic aioli, spicy sriracha mayo, or cheese sauce.
  • Variations include veggie mummies, cheese-stuffed mummies, sweet mummies, mini mummy bites, and breakfast mummies.
  • Assemble up to a day in advance and refrigerate before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in an oven or air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 5–7 minutes.
