Description
A spooky and savory Skellington cheese ball appetizer perfect for Halloween parties. This recipe features a creamy cheese ball shaped and decorated like Jack Skellington’s face, making it a festive and fun centerpiece for your Halloween spread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped (optional)
- 4–5 black olives, sliced into rings or chopped (for eyes, nostrils, and mouth)
- Plastic wrap
- Black food-safe marker or edible pen (if using mozzarella ball or other cheese shell)
- Crackers, pretzels, or veggies for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, garlic powder, onion powder, green onions, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and well blended.
- Place the mixture onto a sheet of plastic wrap. Gather the plastic around the mixture and shape it into a round ball, mimicking Jack Skellington’s head shape—slightly flat and oval. Chill for 1–2 hours to firm up.
- Once the cheese ball is firm, unwrap it and place it on a serving plate. Use olive slices or small bits to form Jack’s iconic stitched smile, oval eyes, and tiny nose slits. If you’re using a white cheese covering or mozzarella, you can also draw facial features with a food-safe marker.
- Surround with your choice of dippers—crackers, pretzels, pita chips, or fresh veggies.
Notes
- Make up to 2 days in advance, but decorate just before serving.
- Add bacon bits, ranch seasoning, or different cheese blends for variation.
- Serve on a spooky platter with themed props like mini pumpkins or candy bones.
- For a vegan version, use dairy-free cream cheese and vegan cheese shreds.
- Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge up to 4 days.
