Description
These cheesy Halloween breadstick bones are a spooky and delicious appetizer perfect for parties. Easy to make with pizza dough and mozzarella sticks, they offer a crispy exterior and gooey, cheesy center, shaped like bones for a festive touch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (13.8 oz) can refrigerated classic pizza dough
- 6 mozzarella string cheese sticks, halved (12 pieces total)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt
- 1 cup marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unroll pizza dough, slice lengthwise into 6 equal strips, then cut each strip in half to make 12 shorter strips.
- Flatten each strip slightly, place a half mozzarella stick in the center, fold the dough over the cheese, and pinch the seams tightly to seal.
- Shape each end of the breadsticks into a small knot or bone-like bulge.
- Place on the prepared baking sheet, seam-side down.
- Brush with melted butter, then sprinkle with garlic powder, Italian seasoning (if using), and sea salt.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted inside.
- Serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite Halloween-themed dips.
Notes
- Seal the edges of the dough well to prevent cheese from leaking during baking.
- Don’t overstuff; half a mozzarella stick is ideal.
- Serve with marinara “blood” dip for a spooky effect.
- Shape and refrigerate up to 24 hours in advance for make-ahead convenience.
- Swap mozzarella with cheddar for orange-tinted bones.
