Description

These cheesy Halloween breadstick bones are a spooky and delicious appetizer perfect for parties. Easy to make with pizza dough and mozzarella sticks, they offer a crispy exterior and gooey, cheesy center, shaped like bones for a festive touch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (13.8 oz) can refrigerated classic pizza dough
  • 6 mozzarella string cheese sticks, halved (12 pieces total)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 cup marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll pizza dough, slice lengthwise into 6 equal strips, then cut each strip in half to make 12 shorter strips.
  3. Flatten each strip slightly, place a half mozzarella stick in the center, fold the dough over the cheese, and pinch the seams tightly to seal.
  4. Shape each end of the breadsticks into a small knot or bone-like bulge.
  5. Place on the prepared baking sheet, seam-side down.
  6. Brush with melted butter, then sprinkle with garlic powder, Italian seasoning (if using), and sea salt.
  7. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted inside.
  8. Serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite Halloween-themed dips.

Notes

  • Seal the edges of the dough well to prevent cheese from leaking during baking.
  • Don’t overstuff; half a mozzarella stick is ideal.
  • Serve with marinara “blood” dip for a spooky effect.
  • Shape and refrigerate up to 24 hours in advance for make-ahead convenience.
  • Swap mozzarella with cheddar for orange-tinted bones.
